How a User can Mark Attendance with a QR Code

Updated on

This article will show how learners can scan a QR code to mark attendance as completed for an in-person or virtual training.

Need to Know:

  • You must have the SumTotal App to access your profile QR code
  • For the smoothest experience, download the SumTotal mobile app and login before performing the steps below
  • When scanning QR codes, make sure your mobile device is using it's native browser (e.g. iOS default browser is set to Safari)
  • Completions will appear on the mobile app and the desktop version of CSU Learn
  • Scanning a QR code to mark attendance as completed may be immediate but is ultimately determined on the activity and instructor’s approval settings

The SumTotal mobile app is not required for users to download. By downloading the app, the user recognizes the use of a personal device to preform work / compliance related actions. As an alternative, users can ask instructors to mark their attendance (on their behalf) on a desktop computer.

Marking Attendance as Completed using a QR Code

  1. Open your phone’s camera and scan the QR Code presented by your instructor
  2. Click the URL / link that presents once you scan the QR Code

3. You will be prompted to open the page in “SumTotal” which will open the SumTotal mobile app. Click Open.

If you haven’t downloaded the Mobile app yet, you’ll be prompted to do so.

If you’re not logged in, you’ll be prompted to log in.

4. Once you’re logged in to the Mobile app, scanning the QR code takes you to the activity’s details page You’ll be prompted to Confirm Attendance. Click Yes.

If after scanning the QR code, the mobile app doesn't take you directly to the activity, make sure you are using your mobile device's native browser. This can be modified in your phone's settings.

If you accidentally click “No”, you can click the button Mark Attendance which will prompt you to scan the QR code again.

Depending on the activity, your status on the activity may immediately change to “Attended” or you may see a message on the activity’s details page explaining that your attendance is pending approval.

If it’s pending approval, your status won’t change to “Attended” until a designated CSU Learn administrator / instructor approves your attendance. Either way, no further action is required on your part.
