- Used to “wear someone else’s shoes” and see what they see in Sum Total for troubleshooting.
- You cannot register or start training on behalf of the person you're emulating.
- Best practice is to troubleshoot using the Learning menu from the User Search.

How to Troubleshoot via User's Learning Menu
Step 1: Go to Administration > Quick Links > All Users > search for the person.
Step 2: When search results display, click the name that displays and on the top left of the slide-out, click their name hyperlinked in blue.
Step 3: Click on the Learning Menu and select the following areas:
- Training Transcript: To view the user’s transcript.
- Messages: To validate a user is receiving e-mail notifications for assigned trainings.
- Training Analysis / Learning Activities: To view a user’s required and recommended trainings.
- Audiences: To view a user’s current audience memberships.
- Jobs: To view a list of user’s current jobs (fed from PeopleSoft).
- Organizations: To view a list of user’s organizational memberships.
- Domains: To view a list of user’s Domain (campus) memberships and security role.
Viewing learning data can provide more information than emulation mode and allow administrators to see data in one central location.

How to Access Emulation Mode
Step 1: Go to Administration > Quick Links > All Users > search for the person.
If you are using proxies Go to Self > Proxy Relationships > click Viewable Users > click Emulate button.
Step 2: When search results display, click the user's name then click the Emulate Employee button on the slide-out that displays.
Step 3: Use cases:
- View User Dashboard
- View User’s Tiles (Assigned Learning, Recently Viewed, Transcript or Training Schedule)
- Navigate as the user to Search or locate content
When you are in emulation mode, a yellow warning will appear stating you are in emulation mode.
Step 4: Click Exit Emulation to return to your profile.
